LAUREL HILL STATE PARK

Laurel Hill State Park is a 4,000+ acre park located in the heart of the Laurel Highlands and just minutes from Claycomb Chalets. The park features the beautiful 63 acre Laurel Hills Lake created by the famed Jones Mill Run Dam.

The park’s grounds were originally cleared by over-logging in the Laurel Highlands. The Laurel Hill Valley went mostly unscathed until the 1930’s through 1940’s when technology allowed large machinery to clear-cut what is now Laurel Hill State Park. At one point in the park’s history there were over 200 young men who came to the park as part of a rehabilitation effort to restore the park’s vegetation and build the hundreds of buildings, trails, and lake for people to enjoy.

Laurel Hill Lake is a popular kayak & canoeing spot in the Laurel Highlands. The lake also features a sand beach, volleyball nets, swimming area and on-site water-sports rentals during the summer months.

The park is great for large and small gatherings. The grounds feature lots of large grassy ares, beautiful trees and vegetation and don’t forget to check out the Hemlock Trail Natural Area with ancient 200-300 year old hemlock trees. The trail is approximately 1.2 miles long and also features an impressive amount of black cherry, yellow birch, beech, maples, and oak trees.

Fishing is allowed at Laurel Hill State Park with a valid Pennsylvania fishing license. A special trout endorsement is required to fish for any species of trout. Laurel Hill Lake is stocked with freshwater large & small mouth bass, perch, crappie, catfish, bluegill, sunfish and lake trout.
