EXPLORE THE LAUREL HIGHLANDS
LAUREL CAVERNS
Located just 60 minutes from Claycomb Chalets, is the largest cave in Pennsylvania, Laurel Caverns. Laurel Caverns features over three miles of cave passages to explore. Fellow spelunkers have the choice of choosing to explore the easier to navigate, upper caves, or the more rigorous lower caves. In the upper cave tour, there will be opportunities to climb over rocks and you can expect this tour to last about 2 hours. In the lower caves, you will start from the entrance and descend 45 stories into the mountain. You can expect this tour to last around 3 hours. Each tour is guided by one of the staff members.
To make your cave exploration trip more exciting, partake in one of the other cave activities, such as rappelling. Two staff members will use two ropes to assist each person down the cliff inside the cave. If you are searching for some less extreme fun, try mini golf in their cavern themed mini golf course, or go panning for gems. Also, for the best view, go to the outlook and experience a view that stretches over five counties, Fayette, Westmoreland, Allegheny, Washington, and Greene Counties. The cave entrance sits atop Chestnut Ridge at 2600 ft. above sea level. On a clear day, you can see the skyline of Pittsburgh.
