Laurel Highlands Ski Season is Officially Open!
Tons and tons of snow-making plus last weeks winter storm contributed 6 inches of fresh fluffy stuff to kick off the 2017/2018 Laurel Highlands Ski Season! Seven Springs and Hidden Valley Resorts are officially open 7 days a week with Laurel Mountain Ski Resort opening later this week. As of this morning Seven Springs is reporting a base of 26″- 36″ and Hidden Valley’s current base is same. Conditions are wet-packed / groomed at both resorts.
The Laurel Highlands combined ski resorts feature 79 slopes and trails, 465 acres of ski-able terrain, 9 terrain parks and more than 100 terrain park features. This year the ski resorts upped their game by adding over 100 new snow-making guns to help quickly cover the 500+ acres of the resort’s mountains.
If you are planning on heading up to any of the Laurel Highlands’ Ski Resorts this winter here are a few things to remember.
- First, check the weather conditions. While many of the roads leading to and from the ski resorts are well maintained in the winter, it is always a good idea to check the weather before heading up the mountain. If there is snow in the forecast, four-wheel drive is a must in the Laurel Highlands. Many of the resorts have steep inclines up to them and even just a quick inch coating makes the roads impassable for two-wheel drive vehicles.
- Second, dress in layers! The weather changes very quickly in the Laurel Highlands so it is best to dress in layers so you can adjust to the rapid changes in temperature that can occur, especially if the wind is blowing.
- Third, plan ahead for things like dinner out on the town. We have very few choices for dining in the immediate area so reservations are a must on weekends. And last make you reservations for accommodations early. Every great ski year sells out the mountain for hotels, cabin rentals and condos, especially on holiday weekends. Make sure to book your stay whether with us or another location early to ensure you have a nearby place to stay on your ski vacation!
We look forward to another great ski season here in the Laurel Highlands!
